SCHOLARSHIP PROCEDURES

  1. Individuals applying for the scholarship fund must be active club members in good standing of the Cake Decorators of Tidewater, Inc. for at least two years. Applicant must have attended at least 6 of the 12 monthly meetings each year and have actively participated in one major club project per year.

  2. Scholarship applications are available from the Scholarship Committee Chairman through the Cake Decorators of Tidewater. Applicant must submit the completed form to the Scholarship Chairman  by December 31 for award the following February.

  3. Scholarships will be utilized for teachers/schools/classes approved by the Cake Decorators of Tidewater Scholarship Committee. Courses being offered at various cake supply, craft stores, community centers, Continuing Adult Education centers, any ICES recognized instructors/schools, annual ICES Convention registration that also includes the cost of demos, qualify under these guidelines. If you are unsure about a class or instructor, contact the Scholarship Chairman in advance for pre-approval.

  4. Checks will be written to the approved teacher/school. If the qualified recipient provides proof of purchase and a copy of the required supply list needed for the class, a reimbursement may be authorized in advance. If necessary tools/supplies are provided by the instructor for student use during the class or a supply list is not required for the course, the club will not consider for reimbursement any supplies purchased later for personal use. Combined expenditures for attending several mini-classes cannot exceed the amount of the scholarship per recipient.

  5. Scholarship recipient agrees to present a demonstration at a club meeting within six months of taking the class. Demonstrations will be on the subject in which the scholarship was granted. The demonstration length will be 45 minutes to one hour long and will include a handout.

  6. Scholarship must be used within one year from award. After that time, remaining funds will be forfeited.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE GUIDELINES

  1. Notice of scholarship availability will be announced to all club members during regular monthly meetings.

  2. The Scholarship Chairman will submit a copy of all applications received by the annual December 31 deadline, within one week, to the Treasurer and the Secretary for verification. After all dues/debt and attendance/participation requirements are confirmed, each applicant's name will be included in a lottery style drawing. In the event that an applicant is found disqualified, the Chairman will contact that person to review accuracy of club records.

  3. The minimum amount of each individual award will not less than $150.

  4. Scholarship awards will be drawn at the regular monthly meeting held in February. In the event that the official monthly meeting date must be cancelled due to inclement weather, the drawing will be held during our next regularly scheduled meeting. The telephone committee will notify all members of rescheduled meetings.
